Let me just say a few things before I talk about this trailer and my impression of it. First, I have always been a big time Sonic Fan, and if you havent notice my PSN ID or anything with user created names, then…you have been somewhere else. So I am a big Sonic Fan, and while I am a big Sonic Fan, that doesnt stop me from being a realistic gamer! Lets face it. The past 3-D sonic games were bad. Sonic Adventure was the last great Sonic Game in my opinion. After Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 was released, I lost all my faith for the Sonic Franchise. After I heard rumors about a new Sonic Game, I moaned over to the Sonic Unleashed topic at the Gaming Console Network.com and found myself stunned with joy. The game look amazing from a graphics stand point and I slowly regained my faith in Sonic once again. Sean and my friend Zack knew how happy I was, you can ask them both about it.
Anyways, another E3 passes and I see the new trailer. The one you watched was the most recent trailer released. So let me rant on about how great it looks. Aw man! You already know how I feel! Keep reading anyway!
Lets start off with first glance impressions, the graphics. I just need to say a simple word. Great. I loved the backgrounds and the level designs in the game . Everything looks smooth and awesome. The CG Cutscene were not a big surprise, and shouldnt be if your a Sonic fan because Sonic games have always had great CG cutscenes, but it has always been one rare one when we get to see Super Sonic in full CG Without having him glow so bright…yes, that was a shot to Sonic 06. The were-hog looks cool. His fur just moves in a wave motion when Sonic is transforming, which looks cool and real.
Next we have the main part of the game, the GamePlay. Sega has brought the Sonic Rush recipe to the consoles in Unleashed and boy does it look fun. I have always loved the Sonic Rush games and I have always wanted a console version of it with more flavor. Everything seems great with the game running on a new engine, the Hedgehog Engine. The “Hedgehog Engine” enhances the look, and hopefully feel, to the Sonic series! This was really needed for the Sonic franchise because everything seemed to slow down when each Sonic game was released. So the hedgehog engine brings back all that speed to the series. The sidescrolling was just an awesome addition to the 3-D back-cam gameplay. Ever since Sonic and the Secret Rings, the series has been heading into the right direction, and it seems as if Sega built off of that to make this game even greater than Sonic and the secret Rings.
While the game looks like a winner in the gameplay department during the DAY TIME gameplay, I have issues with night. During the Night Time gameplay, you play as the Were-hog. A werewolf hedgehog. The were-hog may sound like a cool idea, but I just cant see Sonic bashing and breaking things, its just not Sonic. I hope Sonic Team has an idea of where they are going with this because I dont want to have to play a good part of Gameplay and have to end up playing crappy night missions. So I hope Sega and Sonic Team know what they are doing.
Lastly, the Song. To be honest, I like the Song. It is called Endless Possibility. While the lyrics are cheesy, I am glad it is back. Sonic has a nack for good sounding…cheesy music. So “cheesy-ness,” is good. And if you would like to view and hear more cheesy-ness, head on over to Sega.com for more!

The close…oh noes! THE CLOSE! Okay.
So after losing my faith in the Sonic series after the failure sega made me buy, I have now regained most of it. So I have now set my $5 of pre-order money in the cash register of my local video game store that is not GameStop! Woo! Gameplay, graphics, tunes and everything else looks great! Now, lets play Sega doesnt screw this up when Sonic Unleashed is released sometime Holiday 2008!
